Welcome to the website of the Laboratory of Comparative Human Cognition at the University of California, San Diego. We are a community of interdisciplinary scholars who share an interest in the study of human mind in its cultural and historical contexts. We seek to resolve theoretical and methodological problems associated with scholarly approaches that place culture and activity at the center of attempts to understand human nature with a particular focus on the sources of, and solutions to, problems of social inequality. Our participants come from many countries and represent a variety of academic disciplines, including anthropology, cognitive science, education, history, linguistics, psychology and sociology.
This web site is designed to facilitate interaction, exchange, and communication between the members of our intellectual community worldwide. Here you will find information on the various people and projects at the Laboratory at present, archives of past research, a wiki about the history of the Lab and its participants, as well as ongoing access to knowledge exchange through the journal Mind, Culture, and Activity, as well as its associated discussion group, XMCA. We welcome your active participation in our inquiries.
NOTE: As of September 2022, this is now an historical archive of the website for LCHC. As such links, email addresses, and the like may or may not work.
