Larry,I am not at all sure that ability to lie is actually relevant to what I need, remembering one's own thoughts probably isn't either, but I want to know what was claimed in respect of Vygotsky's use of the concept of "conscious awareness" [/osoznanie/]. Vygotsky does not see /osoznanie /as something which one gains with respect to the entirety of consciousness all at once. It takes a lifetime to even get halfway there after all.

Andy I'm not sure if this is too far off your path, but V. Reddy in exploring the "emergence of mind" in very young children wrote a chapter in her recent book on the topic of lying while exploring [and critquing] "theory of mind" in either its "theory" or "simulation" framework. Children's emerging ability to deliberately lie is a major focus of her EMPIRICAL studies. She certainly has a perspective on the emerging capacity of conscious awareness. Where are you going with this line of inquiry? The prefix to each line is the suffix to the original archived mail url (so you can find it with a browser).
