Carnival

Hi Ellice and everyone, The notion of carnival that you wrote
about in your Dec. 26 message is interesting to me because
carnivals to me invoke the notion of "masks" and the definition
you give is quite the opposite. With little Russian literature
background I don't see the same picures as you do, only perhaps
the carnivals in Federico Fellini's motion pictures which have the
"masked" aspect to exagerate human peculiarities. But in the other
sense that you mention I cannot help thinking about "wondefidiums"
as perhaps those virtual worlds that Sherry Turkle describes where
ambiguity is the rule, and yet these are grounds and places where
important and genuine issues can be explored. Perhaps like role
play that gives freedom to really be genuine, because the risk of
reality is "hidden" behind the roles and the masks. Hmmm....
