I'm a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
in my eighth year of study. I'm in the educational psychology department,
in the subspecialty of instructional design. I'm interested in how
cognitive strategies are used in classroom instruction, especially with the
learning disabled and the at-risk. I've also been studying how questions
are used and misused in classroom instruction-- how questions are framed by
teachers, how students structure questions, the quality of questions, the
taxonomy of questions, etc. In addition to that I'm working on a project
with Richard Anderson that evaluates the use of a technique called
Collaborative Reasoning, a way of structuring classroom reading
discussions.

I'm interested in instructional design, but not in how technology is used
for such design. It seems that's been the trend as of late. I'm more
interested in psychological principles that transcend technology.
