mysteries of sign-ons

A few mysterious messages appearing in my xmca queue seem to all arise from
people confronting the procedure for getting on (or off) xmca.

A couple messages came blank; these were Self-introductions from new
people. Welcome, and tell us a bit about your interests and background.

Another asked What we Wanted, which is supposed to come in the automatic
welcome message, but the Self-Descriptions usually just say who you are,
what you do professionally or in other respects that matters to you and
maybe to us, and what sort of research issues or theoretical perspectives
you are drawn to.

People signing off need to remember to send to xmca-request who-is-at weber.ucsd.edu
(automated, send HELP for instructions), or as a last resort,
xfamily who-is-at weber.ucsd.edu (personal attention), but not to xmca itself (though
someone will probably try to help you out, if they realize what your
problem is).

Mike Cole usually sends messages like this periodically, but I figure we
all owe a couple minutes now and then to keep the shop running smoothly. JAY.
