A key problem with implementing technology in schools is that to work it
has to fit within and further the curricular philosophy of the schools.
Some years ago Sandra Helsel did a dissertation here looking at
interactive video programs. SHe found that most linked a primitive and
mechanistic view of curriculum with technology which could have done
much more. For example the software was usually nothing more than could
have been done with a slide projector. For New Zealand such use of
technology would certain not fir the curricular traditions let alone
advance them. Sandra found Elliot Eisner's work on curriculum
alternatives particularly useful. She's gone on to edit several tech
magazines and works now as a consultant.
If you wish I could put her in touch with you.
