i am a doctoral student and just passed my comps (hurrah!) and am
interested in identity, gender(how not?), and learning around computer
use.
my research is/will be on voice and how computers constrain children's
development of voice. or maybe it would be better to say it is/will be on
how children develop their own voices within the constraints of the school
computer-using system. or it is/will be on how i develop my voice within
the constraints of the academic/research institution. or it is/will be on
how i participate/influence/constrain my students' practices of voicing
their identities with/around computers.
so, i guess i am the typical, confusing, confused doctoral student.
my participation in xmca has mostly been peripheral, but i learn a lot
from the fringes. always have.
