I'm an anthropologist who has worked in India on Jains and in Sri
Lanka on Buddhists, and I've written on the general theory of
anthropology and human diversity. I've derived much inspiration and
satisfaction from the xlchc list, and now that I'm finishing my stint
as chairman of this department (Anthropology, U. of Durham), I'm
hoping to revive my brain by 1) subscribing to xlchc, 2) writing on
Jains and their sense of mutually achieved social identity and 3)
starting work on narrative and autobiographical thought in Germany and
especially in the former East Germany, and on local newspapers and the
creation of expanded (i.e. more than face-to-face) social
understanding in Germany.
