Dear XMCA list members,

A little over a year ago, I finished my dissertation at the University of
New Mexico, and I have been teaching Lingustics and TESOL at Prairie
Graduate School in Calgary, Alberta, the seminary and graduate school for
Prairie Bible Institute. Although the work load is heavy, this turns out to
be a really cool job in that I get to teach linguistics and help train
future teachers of ESL. I must say, the weather is much more brisk up here
than it was in New Mexico. The local weathercaster announced a few minutes
ago that "it's a BALMY 29 below this morning," a bit of information that has
left me quite certain this is a good morning to stay inside and work on my
e-mail.

My research interests coincide quite naturally with the subject matter
discussed on this list. During the last couple of years at UNM, I worked as
a Research Assistant with Vera John-Steiner. During that time, I was
finishing my dissertation in which I looked at the pragmatics of
referentiality. It was a semiotic study which focused on the works of
Peirce, Vygotsky and Einstein. I am currently involved in an ongoing project
with Dr John-Steiner and Teresa Meehan at UNM in which we are studying
discourse among members of collaborative groups.

Now that I finally have an e-mail address in Canada, I would like to
subscribe to the XMCA list and join you in some stimulating discussions.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Kennedy, Ph.D.
