I'm interested in the development of communicative competence in
children and educational implications/applications. I've been looking
at conversations between children and adults in family and school
contexts, examining repair sequences, explanations, clarifications
and metadiscursive 'comments' by which speakers organize their talk
and try to solve or anticipate problems which might occur.
At the moment I'm looking at the organization of explanatory sequences in
two sets of data: third and fourth graders playing computer games in a
structured environment, physics lessons in a high school (10th grade app.)
