RE: Classroom discourse

Like Kevin I'm struggling to find an appropriate research methodology,
in my case for a study of HE students from a CHAT perspective. My thesis
is that the world wide web offers a range of new (emergent/unstable) genres
for academic expression, and that students for whom access to academic
discourse and culture is problematic can benefit from reading/writing
in these genres (particularly in that the distinctions between written
and oral discourse, and between text as artefact/text as medium are
to some extent blurred). I'm investigating groups of students in
Computer Studies and Sociology, respectively, who are taking modules
on 'Technology and Society' and who are researching online and writing
hypertext documents to explore specific aspects of the topic. Part of
what I hope to do is to observe student groups at work on their research/
writing projects.

If anyone can offer suggestions or help I'd be very grateful and could
send more details of my study proposal.

Thanks
Helen
