i don't believe that they have to be.
but then, i find myself not-reading many messages, mostly from the second
set of voices (i don't hear too much overlap, some, but not much).
what i don't like is the continual struggle (and i don't like the fighting
metaphor either) to position the first set as in opposition to the second.
