I'm a Communication undergraduate at the University of California, San
Diego, and also an assistant at the Laboratory of Comparative Human
Cognition.
Before coming to UCSD I worked as a free-lance photographer and writer,
farm worker, pilot, iron worker, and photography teacher at a community
college. Most recently, for seven years I was an associate publisher with a
company in central Colorado, which included managing editor of a weekly
newspaper called The Chaffee County Times in the town of Buena Vista (at
8,000 feet, along the headwaters of the Arkansas River). It was a great
experience and I tried to make the paper as available as possible for use
as a means of information and forum for expression by a diverse population
that included school children to inmates at the neighboring state prison.
My main interest is the human condition and the stories people have to
tell. This includes providing them the means and experience for telling
their stories and opinions, and for helping them better understand the
various powers that impact them. My medium of choice has shifted from the
press to the Internet/Web. I'm interested in helping children and community
organizations utilize the Internet as users and producers, with a growing
interest in how the Internet is, and can be, utilized in Mexico and Latin
America.
My work at LCHC includes interaction with children through the Fifth
Dimension program, and assistance with other Web projects including MCA. I
look forward to the experience.
Best Wishes.
