Hi Vera,
Microsoft hires for both usability specialist and usability engineer
positions. I've never seen a job description but basically it is my job to
study people using Microsoft products and feed back findings and
recommendations to the development teams (I work through my four bosses, not
ideal but more freedom is coming). It has been traditional here to do lab
testing (they have beautiful labs here) but my manager has me here to help
change the knowledge base and influence the community toward doing more
field studies of computers in use. So, I am doing ethnographic work, lab
tests and field studies in support of the Windows CE based products
Microsoft is developing. These are consumer products but I can't tell you
much more about them right now.

Vera, it was I who requested your paper. I downloaded a paper of yours from
XMCA and found it referenced there.

Best regards,
Cynthia
