Qualifications: Ph.D. in Child Development, Human Development, Family
Studies, Early
Childhood Education, or related field. Specialization in infant and early
childhood development and early childhood education preferred. Experience
in training and teaching in early childhood settings is desirable.
Applicants should demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research.
Responsibilities: Coordinate the B.A. program in Human Development which
includes leading the human development faculty group, coordinating the
advisement of majors and scheduling of courses, participating in curricular
and program development, and interfacing with the campus community. Teach
courses in human/child development and early childhood education, e.g.,
infant/toddler development, early childhood development, theories of play,
child observation techniques, child development principles and practices,
and other courses of interest. Assist in the supervision of undergraduate
and graduate student research and serve on departmental and university-wide
committees.
The interdisciplinary B.A. program in Human Development includes tracks in
child development, life-span development, adulthood/aging, and a new track
designed for students interested in becoming elementary teachers. The Human
Development program is housed within the Psychology department, but faculty
for the program also come from anthropology, education, sociology, social
work, and our on-campus Children's Center. The program utilizes the campus
Children's Center as an observation, practicum, and research site for
majors. The Psychology department offers a master's program in Life-Span
Development, and has several cooperative agreements with doctoral-granting
institutions.
Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience. Range begins at $43,584
for Associate Professor; $55,068 for Professor.

General information: California State University, San Bernardino is now one
of 23 campuses in the California State University system. There are
approximately 13,300 students, 450 full-time faculty and 52 undergraduate
and graduate degrees offered through both daytime and evening programs. The
University is comprised of five Schools: Business and Public Administration,
Education, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Off-campus programs are offered at selected sites throughout the 27,000
square-mile service area.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is composed of 12 departments,
including the Department of Psychology. The department, with about 30
full-time faculty and over 800 undergraduate majors, offers masters degree
programs in Clinical/Counseling, General/Experimental, Life-Span
Development, and Industrial/Organizational.
