I really liked JAY'S description of the kind of learning we would like to have.
Here we are finding in our research on the modes of incorporation of new
technologies that the necessity for "transformative appropriation" is not
well recognised by adults with a history of current schooling processes who
often run courses or manage staff development in rapidly changing
technological contexts.

For many, a lot of stress is created by historical notions of learning and
planning in situations where the outcomes are so much shaped by emergent
purposes and the experience of fashioning and using new tools and changing
practice by necessity or to take up new opportunities. The results are
often unexpected and unfamiliar outcomes which are often hard to evaluate
by old methods and thus appear risky.
