I certainly believe we can structure settings that develop
learners, but we as educators have to be willing to release some control
over the content of that learning.. our job is to "set up" individuals for
learning.
It's something like the athletic coach (you've heard of our
Nebraska Football National Champs?)--the coach (teacher) can't get on the
field and actually execute the plays, but he can equip the player with the
tools he needs to perform (learn) in the course of a game, ie. muscle
strength (brain power or knowledge), strategies for execution (ability to
locate. research informtion, comprehend all kinds of literature/text), etc.
