Robin, this practical application is the sort of thing I (try to) teach in my
undergraduate classes (rhetoric/public speaking). I might have wondered
whether the students were trying to bring up a new and salient
issue (the quality of childcare as a factor in deciding whether to go to work)
that had NOT been addressed in the articles. I'm sometimes suspicious that my
students are not lacking ability to apply the reasoning so much as they aren't
able to ARTICULATE the application in a way that is understood by the academic
in charge. (You and me). What do you think?
