I think that Gordon's comments have tied the issues involved
in high/low SES classrooms to the idea of ideal forms, as
summarized by Michael Glassman from his recent reading. Do
teachers, students, and outside observers (such as researchers)
have the same ideal forms for "learning" and thus share a common
ground for assessing schooling? Michael, am I getting the "right"
sense of what an ideal form is? I read it as being related to
the idea of a telos, or optimal endpoint, that Jim Wertsch raised
last spring on xlchc.

A metaobservation: it seems that xmca has been in search of a
topic all semester, and now, just before we break, has found
one....hope the hiatus doesn't end the exploration.
