I hope I have made it clear, perhaps since the specific posting
referred to by Eva, that I am a great believer in the power of
writing as a means, indeed as the primary tool, for the creation
of interpretations, expositions, explanations, interlinkages of
texts and meanings, etc. Even writing in the dissertation genre
(which may be a little different in Sweden, I hope!) can serve
this function -- but I think few people would argue either that
it is anywhere near an optimal genre form for this purpose, or
that it has evolved and is maintained primarily for this function,
or for the function of communication of our work in the ways
most useful to prospective readers. JAY.
