Assistant Professor,
Language and Literacy Education 

Tenure-line Position, College of Education, University of Georgia




The Department of Language and Literacy Education is seeking a tenure track assistant professor with expertise in literacy education for culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse elementary school students. We are seeking a faculty member with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) digital literacies; (2) multicultural children’s literature in the curriculum; (3) linguistic diversity, including English learners and varieties of English; (4) students with special learning needs; (5) social justice issues in language and literacy education that support multiliteracy and multicultural education outcomes; (6) and teaching face-to-face, blended and online classes.

Required Qualifications 


*	Earned doctorate in Education or related field

*	Demonstrated expertise in literacy curriculum and pedagogy in K-12 education with an emphasis in one or more of the six areas listed above
*	Evidence of the following:

*	ability to conduct a focused program of research and scholarship appropriate to rank

*	a sustained and central scholarly focus on literacy education for culturally and linguistically diverse classroom populations
*	experience teaching literacy courses

*	teaching excellence
*	strong writing and communication skills, as well as the ability to publish

*	Ability to contribute to the expansion of the Department’s on-line Master’s degree in New and Digital Literacies
*	Ability to work with students and faculty across a variety of disciplines 


 

Desired Qualifications 


*	Teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level

*	Evidence of ability to integrate multicultural children's literature with instruction

*	Experience and/or interest in providing literacy education for African American and/or Latino students and communities

*	Proficiency in a second language 

*	Experience in or potential for writing, directing, or participating in externally funded projects
*	Willingness to contribute teaching expertise to the department’s reading endorsement courses, ESOL endorsement courses, or both
