Joycelyn Moody is Director of the African American Literatures and Cultures

African American, who is a junior in college with at least one full year of
undergraduate college remaining, please consider having them apply for this
opportunity.  I've attached the application form and included the website
url for your convenience. PLEASE take advantage of this opportunity.
Applications are due ASAP. N.B.: Students DO NOT have to be English or
African American Studies majors.

AALCI cultivates students to join the US professoriate by providing research
stipends, rigorous mentoring, and innovative academic training. The program
responds to the pressing need for diversifying all areas of US higher
education - from graduate study to academic research through administrative
leadership. Participants are selected through a competitive application
process and will receive a $2,000 stipend for participating in the program.
Housing and course materials are covered by the program.

*	To enhance your writing and research skills and better position
yourself for pursuing a PhD 
*	To become part of a cadre of institute fellows 
*	To receive a research stipend and a "scholarly toolbox" containing
basics of African American literature and GRE prep 
*	To collaborate with fellow junior scholars and senior scholars on a
public literacy exhibit 
*	To participate in learning environments in San Antonio and to make a
scholarly excursion to New York City 


What are the eligibility requirements?

*	Must be interested in learning more about what it takes to become a
Professor of African American literary and cultural studies 
*	Must be college junior with at least one full year of undergrad
studies ahead of him or her 
*	U.S. citizenship 
*	Must select and work with a dedicated mentor through the graduate
school application process, through completion of a mentor-directed research
program 


What is the application process?

*	Provide two letters from references, one of which must be a faculty
member at your school who knows your work and who will pledge to serve as
your mentor through the graduate application process, etc.
