The Department of Elementary Education at California
State University, Northridge is searching for three
Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) positions
to teach in our credential and MA programs. We are
seeking educators with expertise in 1) mathematics
education, 2) multicultural/bilingual education, or 3)
social studies and arts education. Screening of
applications will begin December 8, 2005

Qualifications:
Required: Earned doctorate in Elementary Education,
Teacher Education, or Curriculum and Instruction with
emphasis in Mathematics Education. ABD considered
(to be completed within 12 months following the date of
appointment). An applicant who does not have a
doctorate at the time of appointment will be appointed
as a one-year lecturer and will be converted to tenure
track upon completion of the doctorate (to be effective at
the beginning of the academic year following the
completion of the doctorate). A doctorate will be
required for granting tenure. Applicant must
demonstrate evidence of successful K-8 teaching
experience; strong potential for scholarship; knowledge
of subject area, pedagogy, and curriculum appropriate
for culturally and linguistically diverse students;
commitment to teacher education and the profession;
and the ability to work with candidates from diverse
backgrounds.

CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The
successful candidate will be expected to join faculty
and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the
assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple

of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the

Preferred: Experience in teaching pedagogy courses
for preservice, induction, and/or graduate students;
experience in integrating technology into teacher
education and K-8 classrooms; leadership experience
in collaborating with schools and professional
organizations; and awareness of, and sensitivity to, the
educational goals and learning needs of culturally and
linguistically diverse students and community. Other
preferred qualifications include the ability to teach in
one or more of the following program areas:
Educational psychology (learning theory, models of
teaching, strategies for classroom management),
quantitative and qualitative assessments of teaching
and student learning, English language development,
instructional technology, and bilingual/multicultural
education.

Responsibilities:
Teach elementary education courses in credential and
MA programs (e.g., mathematics methodology and
advanced studies in mathematics education),
collaborate in field-based university/K-12 partnership
programs, and supervise student teachers and interns
in linguistically and culturally diverse K-8 settings.
Develop and/or participate in grant projects that support
innovation in curriculum and pedagogy in urban
schools and teacher education. Collaborate with
faculty in the liberal arts and sciences to implement
integrated undergraduate and 5th year
post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs;
mentor graduate students in MA degree program;
participate in student advisement, committee work, and
innovative field-based programs.

Some classes may be assigned at off-campus
locations. Most classes are scheduled in the late
afternoons and evenings. The normal teaching
assignment is 12 units per semester, plus student
advisement and committee assignments. Tenure track
faculty are typically given a reduced load of 3 units
(equivalent to one class assignment) each semester
during the first year of teaching. Opportunities for
reassigned time for research and/or other projects are
