>The Graduate School of Education, University of California, Berkeley, is seeking a faculty member to serve as Associate Dean for Teacher Education, for appointment beginning approximately July 1, 2003. The faculty rank and starting salary for this appointment will depend upon the applicant's record of achievements. Candidates desiring either an appointment as tenured professor (associate or full) or a senior lecturer with security of employment are invited to apply.

>A central mission of the School is to improve teaching and learning for all students in our schools by preparing exemplary teachers in exemplary teacher preparation programs. The School's teacher credential programs emphasize teaching diverse students in urban settings and provide an innovative approach to teacher preparation relevant to the age and grade level of the credential sought. In addition, the programs are integrated with other components of the School as a means for transferring research-based educational innovations to the public schools. Our programs combine the credential with the master's degree, so that all of our graduates have thorough grounding in educational theory, research, and practice to meet the challenge of teaching all types of students.

(5) Contribute to teaching doctoral-level courses related to teacher education and courses within the teacher education programs. (6) Provide national and statewide leadership in some aspect of teacher education.

>Desired Qualifications: Successful administrative experience, ideally in developing, directing, or coordinating innovative teacher education programs. A successful record of university-level teaching. Successful experience teaching in K-12 schools. Productive collaborations with K-12 schools and across University departments. Possession of a doctorate in education or related field. A strong record of published scholarship.
