Bill;
Glad you asked. Jaan Valsiner has provided a more robust application of ZPD
by discussing the zone of free movement, the zone of promoted action and a
more narrowly defined zone of proximal development. This distinction
provides someone to analyze any situation based on how a person views their
ability to move about and what actions are promoted by parents, teachers,
friends, etc and then from the interaction between the zone fo free movement
and the zone of promoted action it is possible to quantify what a personb is
capable of and what they are not.
thanks for asking,
eric
