I am a Doctoral Candidate in Communication at the University of
California, San Diego. I am a returning student with a checkered past,
childcare worker, Mary Kay lady, one-time Navy wife, long-term mother of
two, wife of one. After spending several years as a post-secondary
instructor of Spanish and researcher of language/culture acquisition in
the borderlands, I landed fortuitously at LCHC where I have been working
with various aspects of the Fifth Dimension projects in San Diego County,
as well as interfacing with projects in Sweden, Mexico, and recently,
Spain.
My research focuses on the development of community in diversity.
Specifically, I am using Activity Theory and theories of voluntary
association/civic engagement to try to understand the formation and
evolution of a complex community of diverse adults engaged in the practice
of sustaining community education projects.
