Jay-- A number of Vivian Paley's writings seem to capture the development
of individual kids in relation to classroom culture that also deal
extensively with issues of gender, class, etc. But they deal with
preschoolers, so that the broader social issues are somewhat distantly
refracted.
My own favorite example, although I guess one could not say it was
simply written, is War and Peace. Is it surprising that both Judy
and I come up with fictional genres?
