interesting comments however my experience with
teaching prospective teachers in the midwest,
was that their "apprentiship by observation" (Lortie)
served them to believe that becoming a teacher
was "natural" for them mostly because their
schooling experience did not cause them any
trouble, that is they got on well with the
curriculum, teh norms, etc.

and when confronted with the reality that
others in their classes may not have experienced
schooling as they did (i.e. had trouble, for
a variety of reasons) they can't use their
personal experience since it doesn't not
contain episodes that would make them
compassionate to those who have trouble
in their current observation classrooms.

this has incredible implications for
future teachers teaching populations
that are very distinct from their own
school back ground not to mention, language
diversity, cultural, etc...
