EL LEGADO DE VYGOTSKI SOBRE EL ENFOQUE HISTORICO-CULTURAL
Havana, Cuba
January 16,17 &18, 1996
The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Havana, founded in 1962, is
highly valued for its research and academic achievements in all
subdisciplines of psychology, as well as for its university extension work
and programs in community psychology and education. More than half of
the Faculty obtained their doctoral degrees (Ph.D.) in the Soviet Union,
where they studied Vygotsky's historical-cultural approach, and have
applied its principles in different lines of research in the development of
psychological science in Cuba. This diversified body of experience and
theoretical analysis has made the Faculty of Psychology of the University
of Havana a center of scientific exchange and debate for Latin-American
psychologists, educators and other researchers.
The Psychology Faculty is calling together participants from various
pertinent disciplines to learn about and discuss the Cuban contributions to

this interamerican gathering is to exchange, update and assess this
approach and its future perspectives throughout the Western hemisphere.
