Francoise,
I have fallen behind with my e-mail, so this response may be out of order
for you. I was thinking of the double helix example, you refered to. The
team built many
models, Crick particularly relied heavily on simple physical models in
his scientific approaches. Many physicists rely on non-verbal models
in their mediated approaches and they have provided for me a frequently
dramatic account of scientific activity/thinking systems which are quite
different from what I encounter when working with social scientists.
Their dreams may not be unrelated to their waking activities either,
although in The Double Helix, Watsin reports great many activities
including, model building, drawing,X-ray crystallography, etc. as the
basis for arriving at the DNA structure.
