Thanks very much Gordon for the helpful information!
And, Peter, I think there can be multiple purposes to teacher-research...
but
it seems that the more important point is academics can learn a lot from
front-line practioners and vice versa... teachers usually do not have
much time left for writing up their research (well, this is certainly
the case in Hong Kong, where a typical high school teacher has long
working hours, heavy class loads, lots of other administrative duties, etc.).

Another important point has to do with multiple voices in the field...
academic journals tend to reflect one voice, that of the academic...
academics and teachers occupy very different social/economic/occupational
positions in the social space (a la Bourdieu) and thus have very different
perspectives... and it would be to the advantage of all to have some
communication and interaction among the different voices from different
social positions...

What do you think?

Angel

Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When ... we stand face to face in the cyber space? ...
