Hi Angel
Sara Banet Weiser is a grad in Communication at UCSD who is working on
this topic (beauty contests, ethnicity, identity) in local and
national pageants. I don't know what her thesis is called, but you
could call the Department of Communication (619) 534-4410 at UCSD
and get a mailing address and telephone number for reaching her. She is
not a regular email user, so the long route is necessary.
She may be done with the thesis by now, and I'm sure she has great loads of references on the topic.
