I'm looking for studies that critically examine the discourse of beauty
contest events in N. America or elsewhere; any lead from you will be
greatly appreciated!
(I'm working on a similar topic, among other things: "Women-Commodifying
Discourses: A Critical Analysis of Beauty Contest Discourse Practices in
Hong Kong", and would like to learn about other studies done elsewhere;
thanks for your help in advance!)

Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When ... we stand face to face in the cyber space? ...
