My thesis is interdisciplinary, touching upon linguistics, cross-cultural
studies and semiotics, but grounded in an interest in epistemology.
The thesis comprises a comparative analysis of (sub)-cultural values
implicit to the semiotics systems (including language) employed by both
non-Indonesian (English speaking) and Indonesian (Javanese) commentators
on the phenomenon of the Wayang. I am interested in accounting (somehow)
for the discrepancies that may there be perceived.
Special interests include, in philosophy and epistemology, Foucault,
Deleuze and Guittari, Nietzsche and the phenomenological school, in
cross-cultural studies and anthropology, Levy-Strauss, Malinowski, Firth
and Bourdieu and in linguistics, Haslev, Whorf, Halliday and Lemke.
Mostly I am interested in the epistemological implications of the
interdisciplinary moment.
Yours,
Hendrik Kleinsmiede
