My name is Ruth Seymour, and I am a third-year doctoral student in mass
communication and linguistics. I am still a bit surprised to discover that
this combination is not entirely conventional; at the University of Michigan,
these two departments seem several worlds apart in theory and method. In my
research, I am obsessed by intercultural and intergroup interaction in media
content. I used to be a journalist at a big-city daily. I am now attempting
to teach myself Halliday.
