I'm a Graduate student from Laval University, Quebec,Canada, spending the
year at UCSC as a Scholar Visitor. Before my Ph.D.,I had worked with deaf
children. I was interested in language development, as well as the
development of literacy and narrative skills. The authors that had
inspired me the most are: Cole, Rogoff,Tharp, Werstch, Palincsar and
Brown, Minick, Wood, Bruner, and Ross and of course Vygotsky himself.
During my Master Degree, I worked as a 'supervisor' with educators hired
to interact with deaf children with the perspective of language
development. This period has been the starting point of a new interest
that I wanted to nourish from the sociocultural theoory. My
questioning shifted and now is: How can we prepare student-teachers to
use language as a mediation means in the classroom and interact with
respect of the ZPD in this context? Now, I would like to request your
tolerance regarding the quality of my English... I'm a french speaker. ;)
