My name is Patricio S. Calderon. I am a developmental psychology graduate
student, 2nd year, at the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
I am interested in the interrelationship between the person and the
environment. Currently, my research concentrates in a population of
"emotionally disturbed children." I am studying how speech, through the
analysis of "voices," reflects experiences inside and outside the classroom.
This may help us to understand how the child and the teacher self-
characterized themselves within the classroom. I think this analysis would
be valuable for two reasons. First, from the child's perspective, we could
probably understand current "behavioral" issues by listening how the child's
speech reflects interactions with his or her environment. Second, through
the teacher's speech, we might be able to distinguish the different
constraints and allowances that may construct how he or she perceives and
interacts with the child.

Currently I am interested in several researchers, such as Vygotsky, Bakhtin,
J. Wertsch, J. Glick, C. Daiute, H. Mehan, R.P. McDermott, G. Coles, V.
Crapanzano, and many more.
