I am Mary Ann Poparad, Title I Director and future Reading Recovery Teacher
Leader for Educational Service Unit 10, Kearney, NE. In my current
position I supervise federal Title I grant/program implementation for 16
rural school districts. Our service unit provides staff development,
technological, and instructional services for more than 100 rural school
districts within a 150 mile radius of central Nebraska.

I am interested in issues related to school
reform/restructuring/reorganization based on continuous, effective
professional development for teachers as researchers. Instructional
programs that support the early literacy development of at-risk
children....ways to ensure that all children acquire literacy by the end of
third grade. I have completed one qualitative reserach project on teachers
in professional transition and plan to conduct other qualitative
investigations of teacher change processes and impact on student learning
and school reform.

Theorist and researchers of particular interest to me are Vygotsgy, Marie
Clay, G.S. Pinnell & OSU researchers, Joyce & Showers, R.Allington, and the
group of qualitative researchers (i.e. Merriam)
