My primary interests are in students' experiences in classrooms and via
that to the social construction of mind, learning, acquisition, and memory
processes, and the social and political (gender, race and class) context of
the school classroom. I also struggle with activity theory, with the nature
of consciousness, and with Jay Lemke's writings. My room is filled with
transcripts of classroom audio- and video-recordings and of interviews with
students about their perceptions of classrooms, their own minds, learning
