Hi! I'm Heather Sugioka, returning after a short absence from the net,
and I am a graduate student majoring in Educational Psychology with
a minor in Sociology at Indiana University, where I am studying with
Donald Cunningham. My interests are rather eclectic and difficult
to pin down, but currently I am interested in research oriented toward
reaching the whole child through educational methods which combine
emotional and cognitive factors. I feel that Vygotsky in addition to
semiotics as evidenced by the theories of Peirce can provide a more
wholistic educational environment by redefining the nature of the
process by which knowledge is transmitted, or rather, constructed.
>From the research on emotion in relation to gender which I have just
begun, the different perspectives on knowledge and the implications
for teaching stemming from the theories of Peirce and Vygotsky
coincide with the type of educational environment most conducive
to the emotional needs of high school students.
Anyway, I am looking forward to being a frequent observer on this
list, and have found the discussions very interesting so far.
