My name is Connie Mayer and currently I am resource leader (in-school
consultant) at the Metropolitan Toronto School for the Deaf. I am also a
doctoral candidate in the curriculum department at the Ontario Institute
for Studies in Education. My thesis research is an investigation of the
composing processes of the deaf student writer. Related interests are in
the areas of sociocultural theory and bilingual education, particularly as
they apply to the language and literacy development of deaf individuals.
Reading the work of Vygotsky, Halliday and Wells has strongly influenced
my thinking.
