Hello fellow xmca members,
I'm a doctoral candidate at the Modern Language Centre at OISE (Ontario
Institute for Studies in Education), University of Toronto, Canada. This
is my fifth year at OISE and hopefully I'll be graduating by the end of
this year and returning to Hong Kong to teach.
I did my Ph.D. research initially in cognitive psychology, in the
area of the cognitive processes of second language reading. Then I was
attracted to James L. Heap's course: Applied Ethnomethodology in
Education. I changed my doctoral research topic and started all over again:
now I've been working on a study of the socio-cultural context and the
communicative organization of classroom English language learning and teaching
in Hong Kong. I'm particularly interested in Jean Lave's and
Pierre Bourdieu's works; and James Heap, Gordon Wells, and Monica Heller
have been important influences on me. --Angel M.Y. Lin
