I'm Ellice Forman, I am an Associate Professor in the Department of
Psychology in Education, University of Pittsburgh. My research is based
in sociocultural psychology and its educational applications. I have
conducted experimental studies of peer collaboration and classroom-based
studies of discourse and mathematics learning. I am one of the
co-editors of a book on Sociocultural theory and education--Forman,
Minick, & Stone (1993). Contexts for learning: Sociocultural dynamics in
children's development. NY: Oxford University Press. I am also the
co-editor of a special issue of Cognition and Instruction (with Celia
Hoyles) that will appear in late 1995 on the topic of collaborative
problem solving in mathematics and science.
