FACULTY POSITION ? FURMAN UNIVERSITY
The Department of Education at Furman University invites applications for a
tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning August 1,
2012. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses
in literacy education. Qualifications include an earned doctorate (ABD
considered) in reading/language education; experience in applying
pedagogical knowledge in K-6 settings; record of at least 3 years of
effective public school teaching; ability to model exemplary teaching
practices; and ability to engage in scholarly activities. Preference will
be given to candidates with interest and expertise in the teaching of
reading and writing in grades K-6 and one or more of the following:
children?s literature, content area reading/writing, supervision of teacher
candidates, research or applied statistics. Expertise in multicultural
pedagogy is highly desirable.
The Department seeks faculty who will actively contribute to Furman
University?s mission as a liberal arts college. Education faculty commit to
the implementation of performance-based instruction and the preparation of
teachers skilled in educating students with diverse learning needs. Some
methods courses are blocked, integrated with other courses, and team-taught.
Additionally, faculty have opportunities to teach freshman seminars.
Salary is competitive. Interested individuals should send a letter of
interest featuring relevant experience, statement of philosophy of
education, résumé, dissertation abstract/prospectus or recently published
