Aside from the substantive science, there's a communications / media issue
that would be of interest to some people here:
The rollout of the event on Discovery channel was carefully staged as a
publicity event, with scientists involved overtly saying that if rock
stars and athletes do it this way, why shouldn't scientists, also?
