My work is primarily in communication theory and discourse analysis. A
central focus is on the potential for reflexivity between theory and
practice in the cultivation of communication and related social practices.
From the theoretical side, this leads to an interest in the practical
implications of communication theories and in methodological issues
involved in the development of practical theory. From the
discourse-analytic side, it has recently led to an interest in reflective
discourse or discourse in which theoretical resources are deployed and
adapted for practical purposes within practical activities. Key
theoretical influences (among others not coming to mind at the moment) have
included pragmatism (Dewey), (neo)Aristotelianism (Aristotle, Gadamer,
MacIntyre), rhetorical theory (Burke, Farrell), critical social theory
(Habermas), and interactionist sociology/ ethnomethodology/ CA (Goffman,
Garfinkel, Sacks). I want to know more about activity theory and practice
theory and hope this list will prove helpful. Selected recent
