Ana Domingos (Morais) did look at the impact of pedagogic change
as a function of class in Lisbon Portugal -- I am not sure if it
is published in English.
Janet Holland looked at orientation to meaning as a function of
class -- Holland, J. (1981) Social Class and Changes in Orientation to Meaning
Sociology Vol. 15, No. 1.
I agree about the 'gap' -- it needs to be done

Hi Jay and Harry--

I found both of your messages about Bernstein helpful to my
thinking. My intuitions fit with Jay's-- weaken framing and classification.
But is there any empirical research on this topic? Harry's very interesting
research amply demonstrates that there are important within-class/between
school variations in both framing and classification, but, Harry, has
there been any work that systematically looks at the impact of such
changes as a function of social class/culture in the UK or elsewhere?

I sort of expected that our colleagues in Australia might have
info on this topic, but I gather not.
