I think Judy is quite right that the range of different
meta-stances to activity that were discussed here a while
back may hold the only hope of transcending our limited
perspectival positions on the 'community-level' analysis
of learning, social exchange, etc. I was rather hinting
at that when I allowed a possible exception for ways of
being with the world for which discursive meaning is not
adequate. Such matters, however, lie at the far frontier
of meaningfulness in the culture we construct here. One
possible link might be through the discourses of Deep
Ecology or Gaea theory. Another might be through whatever
'spirituality' is left in our cultural notions of playfulness.
Still another could be made through cultural hybridity
with stances more elaborated in some non-European cultures. JAY.
