Dear colleagues, xfsu members, friends (I guess I know some of you),

I'd like to join the xfsu network and here is some introductory information
about myself (as a psychologist).

To begin with, I am a research psychologist at Moscow State University
Department of Psychology. I've studied developmental and educational
psychology both at Moscow State University and abroad (Yale University, Dept.
of Psychology, 1993-94, postdoc).

The sphere of my current research interests includes (a) individual,
developmental, and sociocultural differences in children's beliefs about
school performance, (b) gender differences in agency and self-efficacy
beliefs, (c) cross-cultural aspects of gender differences. Recently I
conducted a study of children's self-ascribed beliefs about school
performance in the contaminated Chernobyl area, which used an action-theory
approach (Skinner, Chapman, & Baltes). I would be interested to get in
contact with anyone in Russia or abroad whose scientific interests are
similar to mine - perceived control (in Russia - locus of control and related
topics) and agency or self-efficacy beliefs, gender differences (mostly in
education), and practical issues in cross-cultural research.

I am also interested in statistics and methodology and I am a big fan of
structural equation modelling. I mean I am a student of this group of
techniques (and LISREL). So, if you (here I mean just Russian psychologists)
have questions/ideas/ or whatever regarding this matter please contact me.
Last September Dr. Todd D. Little and I organized a three-day workshop on
structural equation modelling, called "The Resurgence of Cross-cultural
Research: Theoretical, Methodological, and Analytic Issues". Maybe some of
you attended it, I hope you found it useful and had fun.

Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have any interest in my
research and scientific activity or would like to share with me your research
interests and activities or if I can help you in any way. The best way to
reach me is via this e-mail address Tamara who-is-at got.ps.msu.su, I check it pretty
often. Plus phone communication is also available (095) 181-4707.

With best regards.
Yours sincerely,

Tamara O. Gordeeva, Ph.D.
