Who said more (longer) work is better? This is little more than a cover
for the corporate world who want year round 12 month child minding
services subsidized by the state. Another step down the road to defining
what is human by "work", "employment" and all those other euphemisms for
something better called exploitation... School to Work!

And the other side being in Wisconsin in which the union was attempting to
fight moving the starting time to Septermber 5th. The powers that be -
tourist industry - seem to think that education ought not conflict with
tourism. Now the Governor in favor of the change argued schools need to be
more supportive of parents summer plans and students work schedules.

The point being 10 month or 12 month has nothing to do with teachers perse,
but rather the need for cheap labor. We have several summer programs that
are very successful - in fact if schools were run like that year round it
would be an improvement (1-10 ratio, interesting curriculum). The union -
teachers are very supportive of it, they only ask to get paid for it.
